Nazareth Social Work Centre
Social Center, Sokho is a unit of Sisters of Charity of Nazareth situated in the Khaira block of Jamui districts of Bihar. It began in 1972 and is engaged in different activities to help people to improve the quality of life.
The target groups this centre caters to:
Tribals, Dalits, back ward class and to the poor particularly women and children. Target area is very remote and the people in the villages are illiterate and very minimum accessibility to basic needs in life.
Some of the activities carried out through centre are :
- Awareness programmes on different themes like education, health, availability of Government schemes, superstitious believes etc.
- Non formal education to the villagers
- Formation of Self Help Groups (SHG) and strengthening them with different trainings on various topics.
- Skill training like Candle and Agarbathi, Surf, Mushroom, Wormy Compost, Poultry farm, weaving for SHGs and interested individuals of the target group.
- SHGs Survey in order to collect the database of the groups to submit to the govt.(for jivika)
- Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises in villages.
- Tree Plantation and Afforestation Campaign / motivation in all the villages.
- Workshops on National Rural Livelihood (NRLM) for group leaders and the staff.
- Kishori program, on gender violence.
- Regular Health camps/teaching.
- School health program.
